School Safety Awareness

Posted Date: 02/22/2023

To the Parents, Guardians and Students of Taylor’s Crossing,

Today, I received a text from Sergeant Lovell at the Bonneville Police Department informing me that threats have been made at a number of schools about an active shooter on various campuses. Apparently, there have been a couple in Boise, one at Skyline and one at Twin Falls today. The FBI has been involved in these “fake threats” and have stated that the calls seem to be coming from out of state. As recent as today, CSI has also sent out automated information about being alerted of a situation on their campus. Since the original alert, they have since verified and cleared the threat. I want to reassure everyone that NO THREATS have been made to Taylor’s Crossing.

I want the parents to know that we take all these “threats” seriously. If we were to be informed of any type of threat against our school, we will initiate a “SECURE” of the building. What that would mean is that all exterior doors would be locked and we would not allow anyone inside or out of the building. All students would remain in their classrooms and teaching will resume as normal. What this means is that we would not release students to parents if they were to come and try to pick them up, primarily because we would not allow anyone access into the school, outside of law enforcement officials. The students shouldn’t experience anything different during the school day, we will just ask our teachers to take extra precautions to secure their individual rooms and make sure doors are locked and windows are covered.

There should be no disruption to the learning of the students and they will be moved quickly, from one room to another, inside the building to another room that will stay locked once students are all inside and accounted for. All of the rooms will have blinds that will be shut.

Upon receiving any “threat”, we will contact law enforcement. They will be the ones to come to the school, verify all the information and then they will work with the administrative team to lift the “SECURE” scenario and then business will resume as normal.

I know this is hard for any parent to hear, but the reality is that this is a process we need to work through to verify the validity of any threat. We take all threats seriously and although we know in this instance that a majority of these threats are not real, we still want our families to know we will go through protocols and protect your children until law enforcement agencies can verify the validity (or lack thereof) of a threat.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I really don’t have too many answers or too much information other than what Sergeant Lovell sent me today. We just want to do our due diligence in protecting our students. Again, I want to reiterate that we have not received any such “threat” at Taylor’s Crossing as of the time this letter has been sent out.

Thank you for your time,

Seth H. Boyle
