Transportation and Snow Days

Posted Date: 12/02/2022

To the Parents, Guardians and Students of Taylor’s Crossing,

My apologies for getting this information out to you later than it should, but I thought it would be good to remind people of our transportation issues and cancellation of school when it comes to snow days or power outages. There are a variety of factors involved in determining whether or not to close school due to weather and my hope is this information will be helpful for everyone to understand what we try to accomplish.

For starters, our biggest concern always is and will be the safety of all our students. We don’t take these decisions lightly as we know and understand the importance of school and we also know the issues that may arise as a result of cancelling school. It becomes a bit of a hassle for our parents to arrange schedules and such for daycare and so we try our best to weigh all options. We would much rather the students show up late and safe than try to force any issues. Traffic tends to be much slower on snow days as well so we have to take that into consideration.

Our bus routes go from Rigby to Osgood and all over Idaho Falls. Our earliest bus pickups are around 6:20 in the morning and as such, we have to make decisions much earlier. I was up at 5 am driving toward County Line to check on road conditions. We also have an employee from the bus company who lives near Bear World and we are in communication about the ability for our buses to drive in these conditions. Although the roads in your neighborhood might be clear, the driving conditions elsewhere may be a bit more dangerous. We want you to know that we have to make decisions based on our observations of conditions and the time frame we need to make it. Although our school is geographically in the D93 area, we will make decisions about cancelling school that are in the best interest of our students and families, with safety being the leading determination. There may be times we cancel school and D93 doesn’t and vice versa and want to make sure you know that could potentially happen.

I also want to encourage everyone to check the links we sent out for our buses. We understand our buses may drive slower in these conditions resulting in them getting to school at a later time, but again, safety is our standard and we can live with students getting to school late. If you notice that the link for your bus is not working or not accurate, please contact the school immediately so we can make the transportation company aware of the situation so we can rectify it. This should also help families know when to send your students out to the bus stops so they are not in the cold so long. Again, we need to know if those links are not working or not accurate for the safety of all parties involved.

It really is a tough decision to cancel school, but please be aware that we are trying to do the best we can with the information we have at the time we need to make these types of decisions.

Thank you for your understanding and time,

Seth H. Boyle
