Math Is Like Lifting Weights

Picture
Sometimes math can be difficult.  That's part of what makes it so fun.  Like anything else, your success will be determined by your refusal to quit.  Just like lifting weights, the more you do on your own, the stronger you will become.  If you are struggling with a concept or feeling behind, here are a some resources you can use to get back up to speed:
  • Pearson Success Net - (8th grade only) Each student is assigned an account with Pearson.  This provides them with access to an online textbook, and a host of student resources.  In the Student Resources section are videos teaching each of the concepts we went over in class, but teaching them in a different way.  These may help you understand something that didn't make sense in class.
  • Khan Academy - This website also provides a TON of videos that cover just about everything we talk about in class.  You can setup a free account and then search for videos, take free tests, and map your progress.
  • Your Textbook -  If reading is better for you than video or audio, you can review any concepts we teach using your book.  You may have to review it a few times, but the concepts are all there.
  • Working with your teacher and others in class - Most of the time, students struggle because for whatever reason, they don't take advantage of the resources available at home and in class.  Come to class, give your best effort, and ask meaningful questions - then watch what happens.
  • What if I don't have internet access at home? - The high school has an after-school computer lab available to use each day until 4:00 pm.  You are welcome to take advantage of those computers.

Please remember that students can do corrections on their practice assignments and even on their tests as long as they do them shortly after grading.  Here are the instructions for doing corrections:
